12-Week Savings Sprint — Pick Your Pace Challenge (Google Sheets)

Saving money is hard. Saving money with a plan is easy. The 12-Week Savings Sprint gives you a weekly plan, three difficulty levels, automatic progress tracking, and the satisfaction of watching the bar fill up. Save $500 (low), $2,000 (medium), or $5,000 (high) in 12 weeks. The hardest part is week 1 — after that, momentum does the work.

What's Inside

One Google Sheet with four integrated tabs:

Three Difficulty Levels

Pick the one that matches your income, not the one that sounds most impressive. Missing weeks is part of the process — the tracker accounts for that.

How to Use It

  1. Open the sheet, make a copy to your Drive
  2. Setup tab: pick your pace, enter your target amount (you can override the defaults)
  3. Every Sunday for 12 weeks: open the Weekly Tracker, log what you saved, watch the progress bar move
  4. If you miss a week, log $0 — the tracker shows you the adjusted path forward
  5. Hit your goal, take a screenshot, share it with whoever you want to celebrate with

Why 12 Weeks

Long enough to feel like an achievement. Short enough to stay motivated. 12 weeks is the standard length for behavioral change research — long enough to form a habit, short enough to not feel like forever. Most "save $10,000 in a year" challenges fail because the weekly goal feels too small. $167/week for 12 weeks feels doable. $192/week for 52 weeks feels like a grind.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I miss a week?

Log $0. The tracker recalculates your path forward. Missing one week is recoverable. Missing 3+ weeks means you may need to adjust your pace or extend the sprint.

Can I change paces mid-sprint?

Yes. The Setup tab lets you change your target amount and pace at any time. The tracker recalculates accordingly.

What if my income is variable?

Use a target based on your lowest expected weekly income, not your average. This way, the sprint is achievable in down weeks. Save more in up weeks if you can.

Is this for emergency fund, vacation, or what?

Whatever you want. Common uses: emergency fund starter ($500-$1,000), vacation, holiday gifts, down payment starter, "just because" savings. The sheet is goal-agnostic.

What if I want to save more than $5,000?

Override the target on the Setup tab. The math is the same — set a target, the weekly amount auto-calculates.
